Abstract

A pediatric feeding disorder results when a child fails to eat or drink enough to sustain adequate growth or nutrition. Although a number of factors are implicated in the etiology and maintenance of feeding disorders, the emphasis in the present chapter is on the environmental variables that may contribute to the development of a feeding disorder and the evidence-based, behavioral assessment and intervention strategies used to treat feeding problems. This chapter will serve as a primer for healthcare treatment providers who have encountered a child with a feeding disorder or who are looking to begin applied research in the area of pediatric feeding disorders.
