Abstract

Worsening global warming and market competition will force cosmetic companies to reduce carbon footprint in manufacturing and marketing their products. Conservation of energy and other resources will become increasingly important. By reexamining our conventional methods of processing cosmetic emulsions and other products, we can find significant waste of energy and processing time. By applying the principle of “Less Is More” and using energy only when needed and in the amount needed, we can often not only reduce carbon footprint but also increase productivity and reduce processing cost. Examples will be shown to demonstrate the use of this principle to solve processing problems and reduce the use of surfactants while improving quality in emulsion products.
