Abstract

Precision psychiatry is formally defined as “an emerging approach for treatment and prevention that takes into account each person’s variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle.” Within this new field, predicting response to treatment and therefore selecting the best treatment for a given individual is a priority. Bipolar disorder is a debilitant and challenging to treat psychiatric condition. In this book chapter, we discuss the innovative designs of clinical trials and methodologies that can be used to validate and qualify biomarkers for use in BD and therefore predict treatment response in BD. The adoption of these new clinical trial designs by clinical trialists in psychiatric will ultimately lead to better outcomes in BD.
