Abstract

This chapter discusses the fuel-energy resources and their usage, characteristics of solar radiation, and distribution of average wind velocities in different seasons. It also shows expediency and prospects of hybrid solar-wind energy sources usage in Uzbekistan for energy supply to remote sites. Solar radiation is distributed on the territory of Uzbekistan quite uniformly with some particularities depending on relief and latitude. In general, Uzbekistan’ territory is characterized by weak wind. Average annual wind velocities are less than 3m/sec. However, there are small territories with average annual velocities 5 m/sec and more. The characteristics of solar radiation and average wind velocities on the territory of Uzbekistan provide evidence that, in summer, the use of solar radiation as a source of electric or thermal power is effective everywhere, along with the use of wind power locally, on some territories.
