Abstract

Travel is part and parcel of human life from the day of existence of the human race in this world. Food is considered more than basic necessity of life during travel. Globalization and tourism made travel more frequent. Safety of the food during travel is still questionable and needs to be addressed. The illnesses developing due to unsafe foods during travel may range from self-limiting to life-threatening diseases. It potentially has great impact on individual’s economy to a country’s economy. Preventive and precautionary measures to be taken for safe food depends on type, mode, destination, duration, and season of travel. General hygiene and sanitation measures have great impact on prevention of food borne illnesses. Knowledge on local foods at the place of destination has an added value during travel. Stringent uniform quality control and regulatory measures are needed for improving the food safety in all types of travel.
