Abstract

In this chapter, the sustainable manufacturing perspectives on material forming and joining are discussed with the available state-of-art literature. The sustainable and green practices in the processes like extrusion, forging, rolling, wire drawing, and sheet stamping are discussed initially. Development of flexible tools, laser-based manufacturing, and the role of green lubricants in material forming are proposed as a part of sustainable manufacturing. Further, the sustainable strategies and practices in material joining processes like fusion and solid-state welding processes, mechanical joining, adhesive bonding, and hybrid joining processes are reviewed. The present chapter imparts different ideas in developing and improvising the material forming and joining processes for green and sustainable manufacturing. Finally, the scope for promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development in material forming and joining is discussed.
