Abstract

Subsistence refers to those behaviors and resources people use to meet their nutritional demands. Archeologically, we find evidence for subsistence in ancient plant, animal, and artifactual remains. Diet refers to foods people consume; it requires the study of human remains, usually through the study of isotopes, dental macrowear, dental microwear/texture, and dental caries. Each group in the current study has a rich subsistence record that is necessary to determine their diets.
