Abstract

This chapter addresses the concept of statistics (descriptive and inferential) and other related terms that are necessary to people who are interested in using statistics in research, as well as those who wish to draw intelligent conclusions within a short time at low cost and with minimal effort. In addition to the concept of statistics, basic definitions such as Population, Sample, Data, Random variable, Qualitative and quantitative variables, and discrete and continuous variables are covered. Data collection and the methods for collecting data are presented and studied. Furthermore, sampling techniques including simple random sampling, systematic sampling, stratified sampling, and cluster sampling for collecting data are presented. The concepts and definitions are supported by examples to clarify the content.
