Abstract

The mechanism of the synthesis of PPV by the Gilch route is discussed. Synthesis routes to obtain high-molecular weight PPVs are reviewed. A variety of methods of preparation are described, such as the preparation of the precursor polymer via sulfonium precursor, chemical vapor deposition, electropolymerization, anionic polymerization, etc. Dopants and doping methods are also described. Ambipolar transistors and functionalization of electronic devices are explained. This chapter also discusses pH, gas, ammonium nitrate, peptide, bacteria, mechanochromic, and impedimetric sensors. Ink-jet printing has been used as a precise and fast dispensing technique for the preparation of thin-film libraries of a copolymer from phenylene ethynylene and phenylene-vinylene.
