Abstract
One-dimensional (1D) nanomaterials especially nanowires and nanorods have been attracted very much in both academia and industry because of their potential diverse applications. In this chapter, the definition and classification of 1D nanomaterials, physical and chemical properties, and different types of nanorods and nanowires are discussed in detail. Factors affecting the morphology and synthetic methods used for the preparation of both nanorods and nanowires have been explored. Lastly, various applications of nanorods and nanowires are summarized and discussed.
