Abstract

Natural products of plants and microbes are of prime significance in pharmaceutics and therapeutics in the current century. Different plant metabolites including essential oils are involved in drug discovery and varieties of health care like antidiabetic, anti-infective, and anticancerous activities. Microbial natural products have targeted activity to alleviate disease occurrence and risk factors. Several bacterial toxins are used as immunotoxins and made to interact with target-specific antibodies facilitating immunity in the body. Microbial natural products also show apoptosis, antiparasitic, anticancer, and anti-human immunodeficiency virus activities with respect to metabolic activity of target cells. In addition, plant extracts and essential oils have the potential to inhibit bacteria, fungi, and mycotoxin contamination together with diminution of oxidation-mediated food biodeterioration. The present article focuses the expanding potential of plant and microbial natural products for the development of new drugs and health care with their green insights to inhibit the fungi-, bacteria-, and mycotoxin-mediated food contamination.
