Abstract

This chapter provides details regarding ongoing advancements in nanocellulose-based materials and their applications in packaging with the great focus limiting the characteristics of oxygen and water smoulder. Cellulosic materials, such as cellulose nanocrystals, nano-fibrillated cellulose, and bacterial nanocellulose, have great and enhancive properties that are treated as shear definite influence to various business markets including packaging. Despite being both biodegradable and nontoxic and readily obtained from the feasible resources, cellulosic materials show an extremely high crystallinity and great surface topography and have tunable surface science. These features thereby give nanocellulosic materials staggering potential to sensibly update oxygen and water impediment properties that are mainly used in the packaging industry in the form of covering, fillers, composites, and stability to the slight films.
