Abstract

Based on the state equations for mainstream wind turbines and various components of the power grid covered in Chapter 2, this chapter establishes a complete small-signal wind turbine model. It analyzes the machine–grid interactions of various wind turbines, including synchronous torsional interaction, subsynchronous control interaction, and low-frequency oscillation. First, a unified model of the main wind energy generation system, including doubly-fed and direct-drive generators, is developed. Second, the steady-state operating point of the small-signal model is solved to realize its initialization. The interactions between the two wind power generation systems and the grid are then analyzed separately. A detailed analysis of the oscillation modes of machine–grid interactions for the permanent-magnet direct-drive fan and the permanent-magnet synchronous fan is conducted with the application of various control strategies, including PQ and direct torque. Finally, the influence of the transmission line on the oscillation mode of a grid-connected wind power system is discussed in greater detail.
