Abstract

This chapter discusses the gender differences when it comes to expectations from executives at various types of organizations. In the book Be in Charge, various attributes of a leader/chief/executive are discussed in detail. In the chapter, gender differences as seen in the corporate world are mentioned. Though there are laws against discrimination, the expectations from a woman executive are different from those from a male executive. The chapter mainly focuses on the factors that can make a woman reach the top and stay there. These factors consist of certain acquirable skills needed beside intelligence and character qualities to be a successful woman executive. Moreover, many practical tactics are outlined in the chapter to help women executive play safe in their work area. The chapter ends with a summary of the discussion, concluding that to stay successful is to anticipate difficulties and have plans to deal with them. Have the vision and strength to look beyond the present and immediate future, and plan for at least five years in advance.
