Abstract

Subordinates can make or break the chief. How they function and fulfill the chief's expectations depend on many factors, and the most important among them is leadership. This chapter focuses on the same and leaks out the secret to treat one's subordinates in such a way that they love to work under their chief. It makes use of various examples of leading leaders from different strata of society catering to companies and universities to show how subordinates should be treated. In treating subordinates, the chief must be close to the subordinates to inspire them, learn about their suggestions, and hear their complaints. Simultaneously, the chief must be efficient by receiving information from close associates, producing plans for future actions, and supervising their execution. A chief should share the fruits of success with the subordinates, not have favorites, be visible and listen carefully to suggestions and complaints, praise in public, chastise in private, and instill confidence and pride in the unit. The chapter discusses how a woman chief should treat her subordinates to gain their full support, respect, as well as loyalty.
