Abstract

This chapter discusses the various forms of conveyances that may be used as the communication channels and also discusses the specific features that affect the communication process. To fully exploit the potential of communication systems, it is essential for the processing centers to be able to communicate freely with each other along the communication channels. The introduction of the various forms of communication conveyances contributes greatly to the achievement of abolishing distances as a limiting factor in communication between the centers of communication systems. The broad function of the communication conveyance is to provide the communication channel with the facility of carrying the data signal between the two communication terminals. A communication channel, often referred to as a transmission link, may employ a number of various forms of conveyances in the same channel while providing a path between two data communication equipment without the user even realizing this.
