Abstract

In this chapter, the research on the ignition of pulverized coal in O2/CO2 environments is briefly reviewed. A new model of coal ignition is introduced for the simulation of coal in O2/CO2 environments. The ignition mechanism of a bituminous coal is obtained through the numerical method. Based on the numerical results, the homogeneous and heterogeneous ignition processes of coal are described in detail in Section 3.2. The detailed physical and chemical effects of CO2 and H2O on the ignition of pulverized coal in oxy-fuel combustion environments are investigated and analyzed in Sections 3.3 and 3.4, respectively.
