Abstract

Angiogenesis supplies for increased request of oxygen and nutrients which is typical of the fast-growing microenvironment of solid tumors. Tumor angiogenesis provides for the formation of new blood vessels in an uncontrolled and not-organized fashion, ultimately resulting in enhanced tumor growth and increased metastatic potential. The angiogenetic mechanism represents an appealing target for novel anticancer therapies and several antiangiogenic drugs are available for the treatment of some tumor types.
