Abstract

This chapter discusses the data extraction schemes driven by Internet of Things (IoT) in a hybrid microgrid (HMG) system using common information model (CIM). The HMG hardware setup is mounted at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in West Bengal, India. The chapter includes the HMG system description and its different components along with their converter interfaces and the major challenges faced while integrating them in the HMG system. The efficacy of CIM with different IoT techniques in mitigating the issues is also discussed. It then explains the impact of the proposed interfacing techniques over the delay in the transmission/reception of the system parameters, because the channel adopted using IoT (Ethernet, serial communication, and web services). The evaluation of the propagation delay, for all the interfaces in the HMG system, is then illustrated by IEC standard 61850 through different plots obtained from the read/write data latency from Wireshark snipping tool.
