Abstract

Contrary to what the name implies, “Environmental Health” is not focused on the health and well-being of the environment. Rather, it refers to human health and well-being as impacted by the environment. Earlier chapters in this book have focused on the properties and conditions of impaired or contaminated environments; the hydrobiogeochemical processes governing pollutant transport and fate; and methods for mitigation, management, and remediation of pollution. However, it is also very important to consider the human dimensions of environmental pollution. This chapter will discuss environmental health issues at two scales, the community level and the global level.
