Abstract

This chapter describes health assessments and current knowledge of wild Matschie's tree kangaroos (Dendrolagus matschiei) on the Huon Peninsula in Papua New Guinea. Techniques for animal capture and restraint as well as sedation and recovery are discussed. Health evaluation consisted of a physical exam, morphometric measurements, and biological sample collection. Radio-collars were placed on the tree kangaroos at the time of sampling for home-range studies. To date, this wild population of Matschie's tree kangaroos appears healthy and reproductive.
