Abstract

Nanotechnology emerged as a cutting-edge technology in the field of science with wide applications due to the incredible properties of nanomaterials (NMs). In view, to overcome the drawbacks of physical and chemical mediated synthesis of NMs, the green nanotechnology (GT) evolved as a ground-breaking technology. GT includes the synthesis of NMs in biological system ranging from bacteria to plants by natural phenomena exhibited by the organisms under stress. Green NMs are synthesized in simple way either intracellularly or extracellularly and extracted from the system by downstream processing for further application. Biomolecules can also be used to stabilize the synthesized nanoparticles. They are nontoxic, eco-friendly, exhibit stability, specificity and high activity at target sites, recoverable and reusable. Green NMs are widely employed in medicine, electrochemistry, agriculture, biosensing, energy and environment. The emerging field of GT awaits new technological advances for future researchers and scientists to explore.
