Abstract
According to the chapter, in a study by the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA)—published in the year 2006—the Space Traffic Management (STM) received its first full conceptualization. Following this, in the chapter—to refine and substantiate this concept—several academic studies and practitioner's activities have been undertaken. In parallel, major policy initiatives such as the EU Draft Code of Conduct, the proposal by the former UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) Chairman Gerard Brachet on the sustainable use of outer space, and the proposal by the present COPUOS Chairman Ciro Are´valo Yepes on a UN space policy all meet with the content of STM. It is also conveyed that the policy and legal framework for STM will set out and would also provide the links to the present initiatives of the policy for further help.
