Abstract

This chapter aims to explore the drug (medication) safety-related issues in Indonesia, highlighting present practices and reporting challenges and offering recommendations to overcome the challenges. Medication safety practice in Indonesia faces several challenges related to pharmacovigilance: adverse drug reactions and their reporting; medication errors; self-medication; and other safety issues. Improving the medication safety system and including all medication safety activities; education in terms of continuous professional development and programs; research into medication safety issues; awareness programs for health care professionals and public; regulations and guidelines and international collaboration are highly recommended to improve the medication safety practice in Indonesia.
