Abstract

The topic of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs is complicated, encompassing a large number of products, often with multiple active ingredients, formulated for oral, topical, intraocular, intranasal, and intrarectal administration. These products are present in many homes. Animals are sometimes medicated by well-intentioned animal owners or accidentally exposed. Important classes of OTC drugs include analgesics, cold, flu, and allergy medications, and drugs used to treat gastrointestinal symptoms.
