Abstract

This chapter gave a detailed introduction about the wild red panda populations in China. The results were from the field surveys. The wild red pandas were found in Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet provinces of China. Now in Qinghai, Shaanxi, Gansu and Guizhou, no red pandas were found for a long time. The authors introduced the status of wild red panda populations from the aspects of distribution, habitat, population and threats. Particularly, the wild red pandas in China were facing the threats of deforestation, habitat fragmentation and population isolation, poaching, trade and exhibition, tourism and road construction, and bamboo flowering.
