Abstract
Several plant species have proven their efficiency to accumulate metals from the metal-enriched sites. Phytomining is a newly emerged technology in which hyperaccumulator plant species are cultivated on metal-rich medium for commercial metal recovery. The technology is instrumental in the recovery of costly metals such as gold and thallium. It attracts scientists due to its environment-friendly nature. Phytomining is helpful in the restoration of mining soiled and mining abandoned sites. It also offers many other benefits such as restoration of soil fertility, carbon dioxide capture through carbon sequestration, production of bioenergy, an increase in employment, and, most importantly, capital gain.
