Abstract

People with kidney disease are at increased risk of developing potassium disorders, which can result in serious, sometimes fatal cardiotoxicity. In this chapter, we provide an overview of potassium homeostasis and balance in health and kidney disease and summarize nutrition assessment components and dietary intervention strategies for managing potassium disorders in this population. At the end of the chapter, we present a clinical case study of a patient with hyperkalemia.
