Abstract

Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is an uncommon complication of myocardial infarction, and it is associated with high mortality if managed with medical therapy. Surgical closure of VSD is also associated with high mortality, especially in the acute phase. Transcatheter therapy provides a less invasive alternative to clinically stabilize these high-risk patients and potentially reduce mortality. This chapter provides an overview of the indications and techniques for transcatheter closure of post–myocardial infarction VSD.
