Abstract

Multimodal (MM) or mixed-mode chromatography is based on resins that are defined by their ability to provide more than one type of interaction between the resin ligand and the sample component. MM chromatography differs from single mode chromatography in that two or more types of interaction contribute significantly to the retention of solutes. Common interaction mechanisms are ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction, and hydrogen bonding.
