Abstract

The chapter divulges the launch of US Department of Defense (DoD) safety standards in the 1950s. Through this section, the standards that have evolved and improved as risks have become better understood, lessons have been learned, and launch systems have become more complex can be known. Risk management practices have become the rules and regulation which are revealed by the chapter. Since the safety of the public has been a high priority, thus the launch of space industry became worldwide and commercial organizations became responsible for ensuring safety. The experience gained in developing and improving standards within the US DoD becomes a valuable resource, serving as an establishment for managing future risks. This chapter provides a brief account of the development of US DoD standards, followed by discussions of the current policies and standards presently in use. It also explores the answers of US DoD launch range that address the cultural safety and standard of safety.
