Abstract
SUMMARY The success and growth of ETD programs hinge upon careful planning and communication, effective use of technology infrastructure and personnel, and developing outreach strategies to engage constituents across diverse campus departments. The contributions and responsibilities of graduate faculty, information technology professionals and librarians as unique and distinct realms create challenges for building effective teams. There exists wide variation in how ETD programs are administered and staffed, reflecting the diverse array of organizational structures in place in academic institutions. What practical information is necessary in building successful ETD initiatives? What outreach efforts and instructional materials are provided to graduate students and faculty to simplify procedures and standardize the process? This chapter presents elements to consider in ETD program implementation, reviews practical workflow issues and identifies potential barriers to success.
