Abstract

The pulping process is the earliest and most important process in the flowchart of producing paper. The process involves actions to separate the fibers into individual fibers, which at the first place are bonded together by lignin components. Obtaining individual fibers facilitates the subsequent processes like bleaching, blending, and papermaking. Hence, the produced paper can be better and stronger in terms of mechanical and physical properties and in fact may improvise the optical properties of the pulps or even papers. The right selection of pulping process for nonwood plants can ensure optimal separation of fibers that saves costs in terms of time, energy, raw materials, and so on. In this chapter the authors have compiled various types of pulping processes that have been applied to produce pulps from various nonwoody materials.
