Abstract

Virtually any inflammatory disorder of skin can involve the vulva and the wide spectrum of inflammatory disorders having varied appearances at different stages makes classification extremely challenging. Furthermore, clinical correlation is often critical in arriving at the correct diagnosis within challenging differential diagnoses. Previous classification schemes often designated lesions into meaningless “wastebasket” categories that lead to further confusion. This chapter classifies vulvar dermatoses as for nonvulvar skin and emphasizes clinical-pathologic correlation to assist in accurate diagnosis.
