Abstract

In this chapter, recent microfluidic fuel cell (MFC) research is discussed. Strategic downsizing of the conventional fuel cell is necessary in order to harvest the benefits of performing electrochemical energy conversion on a micron scaled device. The well-established microfabrication techniques to design and fabricate MFC are reviewed in brief. The challenges in enhancing the MFC performance are addressed in the choice of reactants (fuels and oxidants), electrolyte flow rate, and catalysts for anode and cathode. This article is for readers to gain an imperative insight into the development concerning the performance of the MFCs.
