Abstract
This chapter deals with the types, benefits, and applications of standalone PV systems. It also describes different components of standalone PV systems including solar sources, PV cells, PV modules, PV arrays, inverters, charge controller, and type of storage batteries, battery management systems and battery safety for standalone PV systems. Sizing methodologies for PV arrays, inverters, charge controllers, and PV modules are also discussed. Details of modeling software and tools including HOMER, PVsyst, TRNS, PVGIS, and PVWatts for performance analysis and simulation of PV systems is also included.
