Abstract

This chapter discusses the projective techniques. Many writers have sought to bring some order to the vast array of projective techniques by classification. Perhaps the most frequently quoted is that by Lindzey. The classification is in terms of the mode of response and groups projective techniques into five categories. Associative techniques in which the subject is asked to respond to a stimulus by giving the first word or percept that comes to his mind. In this group, the various word association tests are the most familiar examples. Another category is the construction techniques that require the subject to construct a story around a fairly vague or ambiguous picture. Completion techniques in which the subject is required to complete sentences or stories that can stimulate many differing ideas and feelings.
