Abstract
Three-dimensional bioprinting uses 3D printing techniques to fabricate tissue, organs, and biomedical parts that imitate natural tissue architecture. It combines cells, growth factors, and biomaterials to create a microenvironment in which cells can grow and differentiate in tissue structures. In 3D bioprinting biomaterials are printed layer by layer to produce structures similar to a desired organ or tissue. The first patent related to this technology was proposed in the United States in 2003 and granted in 2006. Bioprinting involves several steps which include selecting biomaterial, creating a bioprinting model using CAMs software, printing, and analysis of the printed constructs. Bioprinting is a method that uses 3D automated printers that can deposit cells embedded in a biomaterial using a computer aided layer-by-layer system for the fabrication of living tissues and organs. This chapter presents current progress in this field.
