Abstract

This chapter aims to provide an overview of the child protection system and the relevant studies in Singapore. Specifically, the chapter examines the prevalence, predictors, outcomes, and interventions of childhood maltreatment and reentry into the Child Protective Service (CPS). The prevalence of childhood maltreatment is calculated using public records and studies conducted with the child protection cases. The risk factors of maltreatment and reentry are explored using the cumulative ecological-transactional framework. These factors are analysed under three proximal levels including the child case characteristics, the household environment, and the parental background. The outcomes and interventions of childhood maltreatment are also discussed in a culturally relevant way. The findings presented in this chapter could then be used to facilitate critical case management decisions, so as to enhance positive outcomes of families and children in child protection system.
