Abstract

In recent years, smart cities have been a very active area of research as well as implementation in different parts of the world. However, the emergence of smart city as a full execution in its early stages, emerged is because of technology advancements. Smart city as a concept is still evolving and conceptualization is still underway. Many terms have risen as possible synonyms to smart city such as intelligent city, digital city, and connected city. However, until today there is no firm definition of a smart city. Nonetheless, many attempts by researchers and scholars have agreed that a smart city is a collection of technologies that benefit humans and enhance the quality of their daily lives. This quality of life does not come free. As a consequence of connecting everything together, security and privacy challenges, vulnerabilities, and threats have become the concern. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the current and urgent security and privacy issues of wireless sensor networks in smart cities.
