Abstract
Conductive polymers are organic polymers that conduct electricity. They may have metallic conductivity or can be semiconductors. At present, there is growing interest in the utilization of conducting polymers (CPs) for protection against metal corrosion. The combination of the properties of the classical metals, semiconductors, and polymers make CPs unique and attractive. This chapter takes a look at the utilization of conducting polymers in corrosion prevention. The shortcomings in the use of the unmodified form of conducting polymers in aqueous corrosion control is highlighted. The chapter also discusses the synthesis, synthesis mechanisms, and properties of conducting polymers.
