Abstract

The application of nanotechnology to drug delivery is widespread and expected to change the landscape of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Polymer-based nanomaterials from biodegradable and biocompatible polymers are interesting options; they have been widely investigated especially in drug delivery and drug targeting owing to their particle size and long circulation in the blood. Herein, we focus on the types of polymers used in nanotechnology and the types of nanopharmaceuticals and highlight several areas of opportunity where current and emerging nanotechnologies could enable novel therapeutics.
