Chapter 18 - Petroleum Industry Activities and Climate Change: Global to National Perspective

Abstract

The discovery of fossil fuel unequivocally has transformed human life for the better. However, the activities of the oil and gas industry and unsustainable consumption of this energy has resulted in an increase in the amount of greenhouse gases trapped in our beautiful blue planet, which over the centuries has resulted in climate change with its hydra-headed challenges. The scientific community as well as environmentalists must take swift actions that will reduce dependency on fossil fuel and embrace alternative sources of energy at affordable cost for the vast majority of the global citizenry.
