Chapter 17 - Research and strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change and land use practices on natural and artificial systems

Abstract

The climate change and land use practices have been intensely observed in the last decades. Numerous researchers and academic professionals have dedicated time and funds for field research, laboratory research, national and international projects, joint collaborations, and expeditions to conduct huge investigations with respect to the climate change and land use practices. Globally, regionally, and locally, the effect of climate change is felt mainly in terms of the temperature rise and variation of precipitation regime. Large territories are facing land use modification due to intense agriculture, industrialization, urban growth, and infrastructure construction. Climate and land use changes show a high pressure on environment and several resources. In order to mitigate the climate change and land use modification pressure on the natural and artificial systems, the administration units and management professionals implement some restrictions, rules, and advanced research with respect to that problem. Due to these protection norms, several areas at the global, regional, and local levels were defined as protected or with limited practices. Research completed by political administration measurements contribute to mitigate and protect, at least partially, the environmental components. In most of the cases, the research and established rules helped the affected areas to reduce the impact of climate change and land use modification.
