Abstract
Internet of things (IoT) is a way of connecting anything with anyone at any time and place. IoT offers an advanced futuristic processing environment for farms, industries, warehouses, and supply chains. IoT-based key technologies include low-power wide area networks (LPWANs), ZigBee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, radio-frequency identification (RFID), etc. IoT has assisted the food sector in streamlining operations and providing better solutions from farm to fork. This chapter discusses big data, artificial technologies, blockchain technologies, and their role in ensuring food quality, efficient production, and supply chains, sound storage facilities, and smart packaging solutions. The chapter further discusses the future prospects such as the Internet of nano things, industry 4.0, green IoT, and deep learning. IoT's role has also been highlighted in providing direct or indirect technical solutions to most of the professionals and stakeholders during the production and processing stages of the food supply chain.
