Abstract

This chapter deals with the development of self-healing polymeric coating for fatigue corrosion. The materials get degrade under action of corrosion and loading of stress. The polymeric coating is based on self-healing materials in which healing agent is embedded with polymer shell. The ultrasound-assisted methods used for the formation of nanocontainer and microcapsules are discussed in this chapter. The formation of stable nanocapsules/nanocontainer synthesis and its dispersion in epoxy polyamide using sonochemical approach are also detailed in this chapter. From the case studies it was found that with increasing loading of microcapsules/nanocapsules reduces the corrosion and offers increase in shelf life of polymeric coating. The extension of life of coating depends on relative magnitude of the mechanical kinetics of crack propagation and chemical kinetics of healing. This type of coating has ability to detect the chemical changes, which are associated with corrosion site.
