Abstract

This chapter explores the future of veterinary palliative medicine and animal hospice. Increasing the number of people around the world that have access to veterinary palliative care needs additional veterinarians trained in veterinary palliative medicine. Working out access to funds to increase the abilities of more people to be able to care for their end-of-life pet is another goal for the future of veterinary palliative care. Specialization in veterinary palliative medicine is the future educational objective, as is increasing the education of veterinary students and veterinary technicians around the world. Finally, increasing our evidence base in veterinary palliative medicine to provide the best end-of-life experience for both animals and their caregivers will help us to continue to expand the field in veterinary medicine.
