Abstract
The fundamental objective of colonoscopy is the diagnosis of neoplastic lesions. The improvement in endoscopy equipment and the arrival of new technologies that permit better visualization and characterization of the patterns of the mucous membranes have made it possible to predict the histology of lesions detected during colonoscopies and, consequently, to determine the most appropriate course of treatment.
