Abstract

This chapter explores various emerging technologies in forensic genetics that advance current chemistry and technological abilities for processing compromised biological evidence. The primary focus of the chapter is massively parallel sequencing (MPS) and its applications and benefits to forensic genetic investigations. A detailed overview of commercially available MPS platforms and multiplexes are provided, along with information on library preparation and associated chemistries. In addition, a range of other approaches for challenged samples are discussed, including rolling circle amplification, Direct PCR, and Rapid DNA analysis.
