Abstract
The protein neurogranin is currently discussed as a future biomarker in traumatic brain injury. Neurogranin levels in blood plasma and cerebrospinal fluid seem to reflect organ-specific damage to the brain. This chapter will explain the function of neurogranin in health and disease in the historical context. We will also provide an overview of the disease entities where the biomarker neurogranin might play a role in future.
